Accommodations in Italy

Housing arrangements for foreign students in Italy are usually off-campus. Though there are certain academic institutions with residence halls for students, you will probably have to stay in a flat outside of the campus. This means that you would have to live a totally independent life. On the other hand, living expenses might require you to take in other people as flat mates to share your financial burden.
Though is the ideal situation financially, it might be less than ideal in terms of actual living conditions. That is not to say that you will experience lack of space and privacy. It is merely a reflection on your expectations. Living with other people in the same flat requires social skills and etiquette. If you have experienced this before, then it would be no problem for you. However, if you have lived with your parents your whole life or if you’ve never shared living quarters with someone else, then you would have to prepare yourself for some changes.
On the outset, you should make arrangements regarding house rules. Meals are another consideration. Splitting the bills, doing the shopping, cleaning the flat – all these and more should be settled between all the occupants of the flat so as to avoid disagreements and problems in the future. If you have to share the flat with students from other countries, you also have to consider your cultural differences.
The housing complex wherein you will stay may also have certain rules that you have to follow. You should inquire as to “quiet hours” or curfews if there are any. Another consideration would be if guests are allowed in your flat. You should also inquire regarding other specific needs or preferences that you may have. In choosing a place to stay, take a look into the location of the housing complex. You would want it to be near the school. You would also want your flat to be accessible. Check out the transport routes as well as the available amenities such as nearby shops or hospitals.
Living in another country should be a pleasurable experience. Do not add to the burden of your adjustment by choosing your accommodations haphazardly.
